|Secret To Getting Anything?|
Habits and Success
I got a big reminder over the last couple of weeks about what happens when you let your good habits slip - and how easy it is to fall into the trap of being overwhelmed.
This week when I am getting back into the habit of having the dishes cleaned up before I go to bed, eating healthy, and actually getting to bed at a reasonable hour, I am seeing again what a difference it makes in my productivity.
We all get in those periods in our life when we feel like we're accomplishing a lot more by letting other things slide - when actually the opposite is true.
When you let the housework slide, the work you have to put into getting things back in order is horrendous.
Though you think you're saving time by grabbing some fast-food, you're really not saving much time and you're cutting your energy reserves down when you need them the most.
When you push yourself to work that last couple of hours, even though you could pass out any minute - you're working much slower and making more mistakes. If you go to bed and get the rest you need, the work would get done much faster.
Funny how these things work, isn't it?
So as tempted as I've been to let my business slide for a couple of days, I won't. I don't want to get in that habit. I don't have to put in 8 - 10 - 12 hours everyday, but there are things that need to be done everyday.
It reminds me of a picture that Zig Ziglar talked about on one of his old tapes. It was about using a water pump when you're camping. You can pump and pump and pump and not see much in the way of results. If you stop, the water drops back down to where it was when you started and you have to start all over again. If you had just continued a few pumps longer, you would have had your water.
I was reading an installment in another self improvement course this week where the author talked about belief. You know, one of those believe and it will come true sort of things. Belief is important when you're trying to reach your goals, but it's really hard to believe when your habits are out of whack.
Does that make sense to you?

The High Cost of Doing Nothing
Cost is sometimes a difficult term to define. Here, we are not simply discussing cost as it relates to selling price, but rather opportunity cost. The web site, "Mentors, Ventures and Plans" defines opportunity cost as "The loss of the next best alternative whenever a decision is made involving two or more options". "Investing in Options" defines it as "Choosing the best alternative means that you can't choose the next-best alternative. Opportunity cost is the next-best alternative that must be sacrificed in order to get something else you want. Opportunity cost can be thought of as the road not taken." Inactivity, or doing nothing, is usually the highest price paid and is often associated with great opportunity cost. Inaction is usually the worst decision one can make, made from a base of fear.

The Winning Edge Theory
One of the greatest challenges people face when trying to make personal improvement is feeling overwhelmed. This probably stems from the belief that in order to make incredible progress in their life, they will have to start by creating a long and detailed list of the things they are doing wrong and all the things they are going to have to change.
Are you successful? What does that word mean to you? Unlimited wealth, "toys" as far as the eye can see, or family gatherings at your cottage on the lake?

Life Lesson--Be, Do, Have
This revelation hit me the other day while I was listening to a cassette on having financial balance in your life. On the tape, the author talked about a goal setting seminar he went to. The lesson he was revealing is that too often when we set goals, we are setting the "have" part of the equation, then "doing" the work of getting to the goal without ever making the effort to "be" anything.

Self Discipline And Business Success
In his audio e-book, 10 Habits to Swell Your Bank Account, Mike Green cites "discipline" as one of the 10 bank-account-swelling habits. Don't burn to much midnight oil."
Failure IS an option.
I wrote an article on this very subject, with the same title a few years ago. And? it was a pretty decent article if I do say so myself!

Celebrate Great Rides
You have been preparing for months. You are in position and you are ready. A swell develops and begins to transform before your very eyes. A monster wave is now bearing down upon you. Your training and instincts kick in as you paddle to meet the motion of your wave. The wave tries to bully you showing it is a fierce competitor. You apply all of your skill and training as you find yourself dropping nearly straight down a mountain of angry water. You maintain your balance and you handle your wave with great skill and superb style. You barely avoid the hazards and have several moments of truth where even in your confidence you are not completely sure you are going to make it. But you do make it. You ride through to where the wave finally breaks taking you elegantly to the shore like royalty arriving on a red carpet.
